In spite of his description by some as the “playboy world champion”, Jenson Button did not party wildly after grabbing the 2009 title in Brazil on Sunday.

The Briton had been planned to return to Europe on Sunday evening for a PR commitment, but his Brawn teammate Rubens Barrichello offered the use of his private jet so that he could stay another night in Sao Paulo.
But it emerges that Button, 29, stayed less than an hour at the team’s party before returning to his hotel.

“I wanted a bit of alone time,” he told British reporters, drinking a glass
of white wine and wearing a t-shirt that read ‘What goes around, comes around’.
“We all celebrate it in different ways, and for me to just chill on my own was the best thing for me. I was on the phone to my girlfriend, my family as well, my mum, so I was up until about 4am just lying in bed with a big grin on my face,” said Button.

He also responded to reports that he is locked in a dispute with Brawn bosses over the size of his 2010 retainer, despite chief executive Nick Fry saying the Briton is very likely to stay with the Brackley based team.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future, and at the moment I don’t care because I’m not thinking about it,” said Button.

Jenson Button will still be contented after 14 races as he leads the championship 15 points ahead of Rubens Barrichello, and 25 points ahead of Sebastian Vettel, the only two remaining candidates for the this year’s championship.

Vettel already vowed he would not give up before the end of the season, and Barrichello will indeed not give up either. Ross Brawn promised us that we will see a fair and clean championship right until the end. The next race in Japan could decide the championship, we will take a closer look at the possible scenarios in our preview of the Japanese Grand Prix at the renewed Suzuka circuit, which will be available on Thursday morning at Motorsport.com.
