In spite of his description by some as the “playboy world champion”, Jenson Button did not party wildly after grabbing the 2009 title in Brazil on Sunday.

The Briton had been planned to return to Europe on Sunday evening for a PR commitment, but his Brawn teammate Rubens Barrichello offered the use of his private jet so that he could stay another night in Sao Paulo.
But it emerges that Button, 29, stayed less than an hour at the team’s party before returning to his hotel.

“I wanted a bit of alone time,” he told British reporters, drinking a glass
of white wine and wearing a t-shirt that read ‘What goes around, comes around’.
“We all celebrate it in different ways, and for me to just chill on my own was the best thing for me. I was on the phone to my girlfriend, my family as well, my mum, so I was up until about 4am just lying in bed with a big grin on my face,” said Button.

He also responded to reports that he is locked in a dispute with Brawn bosses over the size of his 2010 retainer, despite chief executive Nick Fry saying the Briton is very likely to stay with the Brackley based team.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future, and at the moment I don’t care because I’m not thinking about it,” said Button.

SAO PAULO, Brazil Brazilian Felipe Massa climbed into a racing car for the first time since sustaining a life-threatening head injury at the Hungarian Grand Prix when he drove seven laps in a kart on Monday.

A source close to the Ferrari driver who declined to be recognized said on Tuesday that Massa drove the kart at a circuit outside Sao Paulo where he was accompanied by friends and his doctor, Dino Altmann.

Altmann told Massa to avoid driving for more than an hour to avoid back pain but light rain that became steadily worse disallowed him from doing more than seven laps.

The 28-year-old did not feel any pain or discomfort, added the source.

The Brazilian said last week he would take part in a kart race, his first competitive outing since the July accident, in late November in the southern Brazilian city of Florianopolis.

Massa, last year’s drivers’ championship runner-up, will not return to Formula One until next season.
